The scheme has been running since July 1997. It is the biggest exercise referral scheme in Scotland with 10 full time members of staff. The scheme is contracted for delivery to Glasgow City Council's, Culture and Leisure Services Department. It operates across the City with exercise counsellors prescribing and delivering safe and effective programmes of exercise, tailored to individual’s needs.

Since being referred onto the Scheme by their GP over 8000 patients have benefited in a variety of ways from becoming more active.

The year ahead will see the start of an independent evaluation of the Scheme. This evaluation will look at all aspects of the Scheme and will hopefully be completed towards the end of 2002.
